Book presentation and debate with the author Francesca Giommi
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Nigerian-American writer, is now in the limelight of the English-speaking world literary scene (and not only, translated into 30 languages) thanks to works such as The Hibiscus Viola, Half of a Yellow Sun and Americanah, in which she addresses issues of sexism, racism and feminism, patriarchy and ethnic-religious conflicts, globalization, migration and diaspora, postcolonialism and cosmopolitanism.
The essay by Francesca Giommi, the first Italian monograph dedicated to her, is an instrument of critical reading of the literary work of Adichie, grafting it into the wider context of Nigerian and African English-speaking fiction, in direct succession to the progenitors of the twentieth century such as Amos Tutuola, Chinua Achebe and Wole Soyinka, from whom Adichie inherits the community, civil and moral ethical commitment to combat the unique point of view imposed by colonialism, and in connection with the great African-American literature from James Baldwin to Toni Morrison.
PhD in English-speaking, African and Migration Postcolonial Literatures, has collaborated with Italian, British and American Universities and Research Institutes contributing to national and international miscellaneous and scientific journals, co-edited a volume on Black Arts in Britain and published in 2010 a monograph on Black British literature.
