CONSIDER THAT I WAS 15 YEARS OLD – Magda Minciotti’s diary

Seventy years later an extraordinary document returns to light, the diary that Magda Minciotti, a very young partisan of Chiaravalle, wrote during her imprisonment in the hands of the SS and deportation for forced labour in the Siemens concentration camps in Nuremberg and Bayreuth. It tells of the loneliness, the nostalgia, the discouragement, the pain for the death of the brother deported with her, together with the strategies put in place to resist the dehumanization. In the climate of general indifference with which the post-war society welcomed the return of the deportees, Magda kept the diary in silence, for very long years, handing it to her son shortly before his death. Together with other documents, Magda’s biography is also drawn, starting from her formation in a family that adhered to Mazzini’s ideals and participated in the Resistance in the province of Ancona.
It is a volume that combines memory and history; it consists of an introduction in which the methods of realization and the theoretical reflections that guided the work are explained; from the unpublished diary of Magda Minciotti; from an essay that reconstructs the biography of the protagonist and the historical context in which her story developed.
Through an individual history a less abstract approach to the great historical events of the collective history that marked the last century is realized, but they still remain little known.
The text goes beyond the scheme of literary genres, pays attention to the quality of writing and is also suitable for an encounter with the new generations.
The presentation will be introduced by Maria Grazia Battistoni, who will talk with the author about the story of Magda Minciotti, her diary, the research method, the value of biographies open to the context. Some passages from the diary will be read.
There will also be Bruna Castellani, daughter of Magda Minciotti.
ANNA PAOLA MORETTI
born in Pesaro, graduated in philosophy, co-founder in 1985 of the association "Casa delle donne di Pesaro", collaborates with the Institute of Contemporary History of the Province of Pesaro and Urbino, committed to historical research to account for the presence and experience of women, particularly in the context of World War II.
