“Pietro Perugino in Fano – Primus pictor in orbe.”
Edited by Anna Maria Ambrosini Massari
with Emanuela Daffra
Primus pictor in orbe: first painter in the world, this is how Perugino is described in the 1488 contract that took him to work in Fano where he would create two eminent works: the Durante Altarpiece, and the Annunciation.
The Durante Altarpiece, restored to its lost splendor, will witness an unprecedented event that highlights the power of an emblematic case.
The exhibition-dossier will allow people to see, as never before, the Altarpiece and each of its sections, around which reports of the exceptional restoration and key comparisons will be arranged, thanks to digital reproductions.
