Didamar – The Aquarium of Fano Marine Center

Discovering the Adriatic between science and fun

With 8 themed tanks, over 50 hosted species, and an educational path, DIDAMAR is much more than an aquarium: it’s an immersive experience designed for both adults and children, where you’ll be amazed by the beauty and diversity of marine life.

A journey through ecosystems, colors, shapes, and curiosities of our Adriatic Sea—perfect for families, nature lovers, and anyone looking for an educational and fascinating experience. Every visit to DIDAMAR is also an opportunity to reflect on the importance of environmental protection and the delicate balance that sustains marine ecosystems.

Come discover the sea

A sea of environments to explore

DIDAMAR is a small submerged world: each tank tells a different story of our sea, from the Posidonia seagrass meadows—home to creatures like the pipefish—to the dark caves inhabited by species adapted to low light. Then there are the tegnùe, real oases of life on the sandy seabed, or the themed tanks featuring fascinating protagonists like the hermit crab or the scorpionfish, a master of camouflage.

But the journey doesn’t stop there: the route also includes educational installations and multimedia content that help visitors understand today’s most pressing marine issues, such as climate change, the arrival of alien species, and the importance of environmental monitoring.

The Thematic Routes

At DIDAMAR, the exhibition path guides visitors through pressing contemporary themes, such as the climate changes currently transforming the Mediterranean Sea. A special area is dedicated to environmental monitoring, where guests can discover the crucial role of the Fortunae Oceanographic Buoy—a true sentinel of the sea, positioned offshore along the coast of Fano. Thanks to real-time data and live video footage, visitors can observe everything as it happens.

The exhibition also explores the issue of invasive alien species—organisms that have migrated from distant ecosystems and pose a threat to local biodiversity. The visit becomes a true scientific exploration, sparking curiosity and wonder in both adults and children.

For the youngest visitors, DIDAMAR offers a parallel itinerary full of interactive experiences and hands-on activities, designed to make learning fun and engaging.
